Why YOLO is problematic

#YOLO represents the cultural hegemony of the West. How an acronym coming out of Drake song influenced by the West; in turn, Judeo-Christian values influence people worldwide. Western liberals who might claim to be post-modern, modern, post-racial, inclusive or secular use their asymmetrical power to further western ideas. Their actions might be out of sheer ignorance or a part of some hidden agenda.

The viral song with the Bible inside is similar to the PC towers you see with Intel inside. #YOLO has influenced people worldwide in a way a track by someone like RAFTAAR or EMIWAY never could. The asymmetry of power is a threat to post-colonial native cultures like the Hindus of India. YOLO represents how pop-culture that we naively may assume to be progressive and modern. Western ideas of mind, god, history and ultimate reality are manifest in pop culture.

I think #YOLO is a call for action of all people who want global cultures to accept Non-Western and Non-Abhramic ideas and people. Western-Universalism is a threat. to the people worldwide, and I think Indians today are at a unique position to change this.
